Making Paper Designs

Open Chrome. Go to designer.io. Click Use it Online.

Create a 12 x 12 inch document.

Gravit Designer DOES NOT save automatically. Save to Cloud... and be sure you are logged in.

From Shapes menu, select the Pen tool (type the letter "p" as a shortcut)

After reading the tutorial, draw a shape with the pen tool. Start with the smallest, most detailed center of your Molas shape.

Working with Paths

Each shape that you draw with the pen tool is called a path. The list of shapes grow in the layers list, on the left. To make two paths into one shape you need to combine them:

Hold down SHIFT key on your keyboard
In the list of layers, click on all the paths that need to be combined
Modify -> Merge Selection or click on Union

Pick the first color for your Mola.

Click on the shape in the layers list. It will be outlined with blue dots.
Click on the Fill box.
Select a color from the pallete.
After it changes color, click on the background to close the color pallete
Remember: SAVE your work at every stage.

Draw the second layer of your mola.

Shortcuts and Hints:

Type p for Path (use it to draw or add/delete points in your shape)
Type v for select tool (double-click on your shape and use it to edit/move points and make curves from straight lines)
New shapes, always appear on top of old shapes.
Turn off Fill (click on the eyeball) to see the shape below the one you just drew.
Drag your path to the bottom in the layer list, to put it under your first shape.
When it is on the bottom, give it a color by clicking Fill and selecting a new color.

Rename Layers

You can rename layers as you make them, by clicking on their name to change them.

Save your work!

Combing parts to make holes in paper

If you want to see a layer through a hole in a mola shape, do the following:

Draw the shape (here an ellipse)
In the list of layers, put the ellipse above the shape it will be a hole in.
Use the SHIFT key to select both objects.
Modify -> Create Compound Shape -> Subtract

Export your shape as .SVG

When finished:

Save your work
Export as Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg)

Make a New Document

File -> New

Click Upload Images and then Upload Image Button

Upload SVG File to Cricut

Click Browse
Find your Downloads Folder
Find your gravit downloaded .SVG file
Click Open

Click SAVE

Insert Image

Click on Your Uploaded Image. Click INSERT IMAGES Button

Move Image and Turn off Unwanted Layers

Drag your Image to the top left corner of the document, to conserve paper.
My image had a black layer that I didn't want. I turned it off by clicking on the eyeball for that layer
Save your work.

Save your Work

Give it a Name (put your name in the title) and Click Save

Click Go

When it looks ready to print, click Go.

Prepare Material

Find pieces of paper for each layer the Cricut needs. It is OK if the colors you select are different from the design.
Adjust the Material size by clicking on each one and selecting the right size from the drop down menu
Click Go and follow instructions to connect machine and load paper.
