Why should my grade 3-8 student sign into Chrome? How do they sign in to Chrome?
Students should use Google Chrome as their default browser to be sure that when they are synced to their Meadowbrook account, they have easy access to all of their bookmarks and can quickly log in to all of the digital tools they will use most frequently. Follow the steps below to be sure they are syncing correctly.
Students in Grades 3-8 have a Meadowbrook Google account and should sign into chrome on any computer where they are completing school work.
Step one: Open the Chrome web browser (see article on installing Chrome on your computer if you do not yet have it installed).
If you are using a Mac, you can either search "Chrome" in the spotlight search, or you may already have it in your dock. See image below for reference of what the icon looks like:
Step two: Once you have opened Chrome, you will want to be sure your student is signed in. *Note* if you have multiple Chrome users in your household, you can refer to the help articles about how to toggle back and forth so each user's settings, bookmarks, and passwords are kept separate. If you are opening Chrome for the first time, have your student follow these next steps to sign in and begin syncing to their Meadowbrook account.
Your student will enter their full Meadowbrook gmail address (first letter of first name, last name, and last two digits of their graduation year followed by @meadowbrook-ma.org)
**ex. tsmith23@meadowbrook-ma.org
They will then enter their Meadowbrook password. For students in grades 3-5, you can send us a request for their password should your child not remember. For middle school students who may have forgotten their password, they can click this link and follow the directions.
After they successfully sign in, it is important that they click LINK DATA in the next pop up window.
They should then click "Yes, I'm in" on the next pop up window.
It will take a few seconds, but your student's familiar Meadowbrook bookmarks, and personal settings will appear and both personal icons in the upper right corner should match (it may be a photo, or letter corresponding to their name, or another personalized logo they had previously customized.
Occasionally, your student may see the word "paused" instead of their user profile icon. They simply need to click on the "paused" button and sign-in again. This would generally only be necessary after a longer period of not being signed in and is for security.
If your student does not see their bookmarks when syncing, on a Mac they simply need to drag their mouse to the top of the screen and click "view" in the top toolbar, then make sure the top two options are clicked: "Always show bookmarks bar" and "Always show toolbar in full screen".
One final reminder for students (and families), there is a permanent folder at the front of their bookmarks bar labeled "MB". This has quick links to a few very helpful resources!
